Waratah Special Developmental School is a relatively small Government school that prides itself on it's knowledge of individuals. We know our students well, we know our families and the extended communities. The school values and respects diversity - in student ability, in the wide range of cultures that are represented in our community, and in gender.

The school has a dedicated multi-disciplinary staff that comprises of special education teachers, teacher-assistants, two speech pathologists, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, and a Welfare Officer.
Staff student ratios are excellent. Classes have an average of six students with a teacher and teacher assistant working with them on a daily basis. A mulitdisciplinary approach is used with the speech pathologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist and music therapist providing additional support and expertise.
The school also runs four specialist programs – sensory art, technology, homecrafts (cooking) and physical education. Specialist programs are run by teachers with expertise in these areas and all class are timetabled for these programs throughout the year. Students in the Middle and Senior Years also participate in our Gardening program.
Staff training and professional development is highly valued at Warratah SDS and we are constantly working to improve our skills and knowledge in order to provide better programs for our students.
