Literacy Day, Term 3

For Literacy Day this year, students were assisted to recreate their favourite stories on film. Students narrated and performed in a range of different videos representing their favourite stories. These videos were then shared with the rest of the school as part of Waratah SDS’ Logies. Students enjoyed watching themselves and others up on the ‘big screen’.

NAIDOC , Term 3

As part of NAIDOC celebrations students enjoyed a number of activities including Aboriginal songs and dances performed by Koomurri Aboriginal Incursions. Students particularly enjoyed listening to the didgeridoo and making traditional face paints. All students had a hand in making traditional Indigenous art works as well. As we have a number of students at Waratah that identify as Indigenous Australians, it was a great opportunity for the school to celebrate and acknowledge Indigenous culture.

A special thank you to Claire, our Welfare Officer, for organising such a great day.

imagesCANX840VA special thank you to the Victorian Multicultural Commission for assisting with funding for the day’s activities.

As part of Cultural Diveristy week in Victoria, Waratah SDS celebrated with a special day on Tuesday 18th March.  The staff and students at Waratah SDS come from very diverse backgrounds. In fact, there are over 26 cultures represented at Waratah SDS.

The day started off with a very active and lively performance by ‘The Rhythm of Life’, an African percussion and drum group. Students and staff enjoyed listening to and dancing along with the music. There were also several student performances followed by a feast of food from around the world.
