Early Years

The Early Years section caters for students aged between 5 and 10 years old.

Teaching and learning activities are planned using Working Towards Level 1 VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards) as well as ABLES (Abilities Based Learning and Education Support) frameworks.

Developing students’ communication skills is a major focus in Early Years and across the school. Students’ communication skills are enhanced through the use of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) in addition to a range of other communication strategies such as key word sign, Aided Language Displays and visual cue cards.

Students are provided with opportunities to develop social skills through structured programs, turn taking activities, board games, leisure activities and play-based activities.

Programs in Early Years focus on introducing students to the routine of school, providing skills in self-care and teaching beginning literacy and numeracy skills through motivating and engaging activities.
